Firstly, I didn't find it all that interesting since it relies on a lot of cliché stuff, like enemies to lovers, a girl forced to do something by her mother, yada yada yada. It's just soooo cliché that the predictable plot points made me want to toss the book out the window!!!
Violet is so annoying, point blank period. Every second the author would mention how tiny or show petite Violet was like come on!!! Like she's trying so hard to be a relatable and clumsy FMC, and not to mention how she easily tames TWO of the rarest dragons in the book. Two. TWO. And on top of that she can throw this horrible attitude and not get any sort of consequence???? how does THAT work??
And don't get me started on the "frail petite girl gets with the big strong bad boy!!" because I've had enough of it.
Moving onto world building, it felt so so SOOO shallow, the whole war doesn't make sense, the conversations feel off, it's more of a "tell don't show" kind of feeling and it has horrible foreshadowing. And the character do NOT fit the timeline at all, the whole thing was Violet not being able to control her clit.
The whole book's pacing is a mess, one time it's rushed the next it's so dragged out like a lecture! It’s exhausting. And the overall writing was an eyesore, the sentences were either incomprehendable or straight up infodumping!
Honestly I was shocked that Rebecca Yarros was 44 YEARS OLD. she writes like a full on tween!!
The only enjoyable thing in this book for me, and for a lot of other readers, were the dragons :/
this book was torture, I hated it! ^_^
